Gospel Artist Pulane Maphari On Being Stripped Of Her SAMA

Winning is wonderful. The worst kind of humiliation, though, is winning and having your prize taken away, according to many people. The gospel musician Pulane Maphari is currently coping with that predicament.

She just lost her SOUTH African Music Award (SAMA), allegedly for reasons related to maintaining the honor’s integrity.

Recording Industries South Africa (RiSA) claims that she broke the SAMA’s standards by rebranding an old album as a new one, which was against the guidelines for bestowing plaques on musicians.

Less than a month after winning the SAMA for Best Contemporary Faith Album, the singer had the honor taken away. In that situation, she would be unable to tout her victory in that area as a SAMA winner.

She said she wishes the awarding agency had done its full diligence when deciding to remove her prize. She claimed she had no idea what she had done wrong. She was therefore shocked when the award was taken away from her.

What’s more disconcerting is that she didn’t know she had lost her prize until she read about it in an article. Before that, she had received no information from the SAMA.
