Khuzani’s childhood and background
Khuzani Nkosikhona Innocent Mpungose was born to Muziwephahla Mpungose and Sizakele Mpungose on December 3, 1989, in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal. He is the second of three kids in his family.
He started school at Mvayiza Primary School in the village of Mandaba in Nkandla. He then went to Sibhakabhaka Primary and Secondary School, where he graduated in 2009.
Khuzani was interested in music from a young age. Mgqumeni and Mtshengiseni Ngcwensa gave him ideas that led him to focus on Maskandi music.
Khuzani’s music career
Khuzani Mpungose started his music career in 2009 after Mgqumeni died while still working on his album, iSecret. Mgqumeni’s record label, Izingane Zoma Music, chose Khuzani because his voice was similar to that of the late Mgqumeni. The album did very well and won a lot of awards at the South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMAs).
Khuzani’s first studio album, Bahluleke Bonke, came out in 2011. It was also a big hit, and it helped him win the Amatshontsho kaMaskandi Award for Best Selling Album.
The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) said that Khuzani’s seventh album, Isixaxa Samaxoki, was gold just two weeks after it came out in 2017.
