Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu share The Woman King’ official trailer VIDEO
Actress Viola Davis, winner of both an Oscar and an Emmy, is prepared to lead us into battle. In the first official trailer for The Woman King, the actress establishes herself as a formidable force.
The Woman King, which was written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and was shot in South Africa, features Davis as Nanisca, a real-life African commander of the Agojie, an all-female army that was formed in the 1800s to defend the African Kingdom of Dahomey.
Davis has previously stated that she worked out for four hours a day, five days a week, to get physically ready for the role. Weightlifting, running, martial arts, and machete weaponry training, she stated. “I prefer to think of myself as the original fighter,”

In the teaser, John Boyega’s King Ghezo is persuaded by Davis, who plays Nanisca, that the Europeans will do anything to conquer Africa. A disturbed King Ghezo responds, “War.” “You want me to fight,” I replied. Steely-eyed Nanisca responds, “Some things are worth fighting for.” Following that, we see Davis’ Nanisca instructing a squad of female warriors in the art of combat, getting them ready for the conflict to defend their kingdom.
The Woman King is unlike anything the two actors have ever attempted in their lives, with violent war scenes and complex action scenes between Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu. On September 16, The Woman King opens exclusively in theaters.
