Cyclone Freddy Threatens Mauritius, Island Nation Braces For The Worst

Cyclone Freddy Threatens Mauritius, Island Nation Braces For The Worst. On Monday, Cyclone Freddy threatened the island country of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, forcing the cancellation of flights and leaving locals feeling uneasy.

According to the AFP, due to the cyclone concerns, banks, schools, and even workplaces were closed, leaving the streets virtually desolate. Public transportation was also suspended. In a sense, time stood still.

Cyclone Freddy is not just a very severe cyclone but also a direct threat, as indicated by the island’s prime minister Pravind Jugnauth, which provided confirmation of the situation on the ground. The prime minister had appealed to his people to exercise all due caution, remain at home, and be watchful.

The Mauritius Meteorological Services (MMS) has been updating the populace on what to expect and how to stay safe as well. It had, for instance, issued a Class 3 cyclone warning, as well as estimated that wind from the centre of Cyclone Freddy could reach around 280 kilometres.

Out on social media, the name of the cyclone was a source of little hilarity, as some tweeps wondered why something potentially devastating could have such a sexy male name. Well, can you beat that?
